Anna Fotyga on the threat of famine in Sudan

Anna Fotyga on the threat of famine in Sudan

At the European Parliament in Strasbourg, as part of debates on violations of human rights, democratic principles, and the rule of law, a discussion was held on the threat of famine resulting from the spread of the conflict in Sudan. Speaking on behalf of the ECR Group was Anna Fotyga, co-author of the European Parliament resolution on this matter.

Anna Fotyga said that despite the efforts of the international community and the agreement between the World Bank and the World Food Program—which is helping millions of Sudanese affected by the ongoing crisis and the dire humanitarian situation— we are facing increasingly bleak prospects. She reported that the World Food Programme is sounding the alarm and expressing its concerns regarding the upcoming period of poor harvests and the deteriorating situation in Sudan. “In addition to humanitarian aid, we must step up our diplomatic efforts to bring the parties to the conflict to the negotiating table and, in particular, secure a ceasefire,” appealed the former head of Polish diplomacy.
