A debate took place at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on restoring the EU’s competitive advantage, and in particular on the need to assess the impact of the Green Deal policy. PiS MEP Anna Zalewska took part in the discussion.
The MEP stated that “the Green Deal has turned out to be a global hoax; it was created without consulting citizens and in violation of the treaties.” “The Green Deal was created at the expense of the economy and competitiveness,” added Anna Zalewska. She explained that the EU had set itself unrealistic goals and ambitions that are impossible to achieve, leading to a situation where this reform must be halted immediately and made more realistic. The MEP also pointed to the need for the Commission to meet with the European Environment Agency, which had already warned in December that the EU would not meet its target of reducing emissions by 55 percent by 2030. She noted that reality is being “magic-worded” here, given that the Commission wants to achieve the climate goal of reducing emissions by 90 percent by 2040.
The PiS MEP also highlighted the lack of transparency in the spending of EU funds to achieve climate goals. She stated that “no one knows what is happening to citizens’ money or how it is being spent.” “This is an absolute Ponzi scheme that needs to be stopped,” she said. She noted that the climate summit in Baku clearly showed that “the whole world has turned its back on us.” “No one wants to listen to us because everyone is a realist and cares about their own citizens,” the MEP stated.
