In Strasbourg, during the ongoing plenary session of the European Parliament, a debate was held on the U.S. withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, its withdrawal from the World Health Organization, and the U.S. suspension of development and humanitarian aid. PiS MEP Anna Zalewska spoke on behalf of the ECR Group.
Anna Zalewska stated that “the Commission is apparently handing out ‘happy pills’ so that it can create a reality that simply does not exist.” She noted that in the corridors at the United Nations COP29 climate summit in Baku, people were talking about the Draghi report and discussing how the ill-conceived and poorly estimated Green Deal had led to such disaster. She added that there was also talk that there would be no funding for climate policy and that the United States, as well as China, India, and Brazil, had pointed out that there was no money for it in the system and that it was a “road to nowhere.” “Furthermore, neither the European Union nor the institutions that have at their disposal funds generously allocated from around the world are able to account for these resources,” Zalewska added. “To see what they’re spending it on, how they’re spending it, and what the results are,” Zalewska said, “just look at the latest report from the Court of Auditors.” “Yes, exactly the one that says what is ‘green’ is unclear,” she added. The PiS MEP therefore called for reflection: “It’s time to wake up—this is the last chance.”
