During the European Parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg, a debate was held on the implementation of the EU’s LGBTIQ Equality Strategy for 2020–2025. ECR MEP Beata Kempa spoke during the discussion.
Beata Kempa said that the European Union is currently facing many problems, such as farmers’ protests and the massive upheaval caused by the war in Ukraine. The Polish politician noted that we are also seeing a 44 percent increase in attacks on Christians. “But there is neither a discussion nor a report on this subject,” she stated. She clearly emphasized that she is opposed to discrimination against anyone on the basis of faith, sexual orientation, or any other grounds. “It is clear and obvious that any form of discrimination is unacceptable,” she noted.
“Including legal provisions in this report that pertain to the policies and legislation of member states constitutes an encroachment on national competences, for example in the areas of health and family law,” she said.
Beata Kempa addressed the concept of “gender” and noted that it is a completely vague term and may “raise problems of interpretation, problems of meaning, and, generally, semantic problems.” As she pointed out, EU documents should be based on the terminology adopted in primary law. “The European Union is founded on Christian values, and human dignity and respect are its foundation. Let’s hold fast to that; it’s enshrined in the treaties,” she argued.
