Today, during a meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research, and Energy (ITRE), a structured dialogue took place with Dan Jørgensen, the Commissioner for Energy and Housing. PiS MEP Beata Szydło spoke during the discussion.
“Commissioner, there’s really just one short question I’d like to ask: What exactly do you intend to do to ensure that Europeans pay lower electricity bills, so that the cost of living doesn’t skyrocket and European entrepreneurs don’t have to wake up terrified, or have nightmares that their companies will go under because they can’t stay competitive?” the PiS MEP asked Jørgensen. Beata Szydło, referring to the European Commission’s plans presented by the commissioner, stated that they could be summed up in a single sentence: “You want to continue down the path that has led to people having increasingly greater trouble making ends meet, to them being unable to pay their bills, and to the European economy becoming less and less competitive.” She stated that “these are the facts,” a point also confirmed by the famous Draghi report.
The former Polish prime minister said that the Commission is in fact emphasizing that previously proposed solutions should be implemented more quickly and “that we should be more ambitious.” At the same time, she noted that “the whole world is moving away from these extremely green regulations, moving forward and leaving Europe behind.” “We certainly need time for the transition, but above all, we must think about energy security,” – Szydło emphasized, pointing out that moving away from the sources and resources available in Europe—which have guaranteed security thus far—will lead to an increasingly dire situation for Europeans. “Commissioner, here’s my appeal: please come down to earth and start thinking pragmatically. Europeans have truly had enough of these costs, which are ruining the European economy and driving them to bankruptcy," the MEP urged.
