Jadwiga Wiśniewska: “The motto of the current presidency is security, yet instead of focusing fully on the fight against human traffickers, they are going after border defenders.”

In Strasbourg, on the third day of the European Parliament’s plenary session, a debate took place on the links between organized crime and migrant smuggling in light of recent UN reports. PiS MEP Jadwiga Wiśniewska took part in the discussion.

Jadwiga Wiśniewska stated that the European Union remains powerless against brutal smuggling gangs, which are responsible for 90 percent of illegal migration. She noted that human smuggling generates high profits and carries a low risk of detection. She emphasized that it is also an element of hybrid warfare. As an example, she cited the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border, where organized smuggling networks supported by the Lukashenko and Putin regimes are smuggling people across the border.

The PiS MEP pointed out that there was no representative of the Polish presidency in the chamber and recalled that it was Tusk’s political circle that opposed the construction of a barrier on the border and attacked border defenders. “And today, unfortunately, the illegally seized prosecutor’s office in Poland, instead of fully focusing on the fight against human smugglers, is persecuting border defenders, the Polish politician said.

“The slogan of the current presidency is ‘security,’ but the empty chair in this chamber speaks volumes and shows that the Polish presidency is not interested in this issue,” the MEP stated. She also expressed the ECR Group’s willingness to cooperate on the issue of European security.
