During the European Parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg, Law and Justice MEP Joachim Brudziński, took the floor in a debate on the future of the EU’s livestock sector, thanking the rapporteur for preparing the report and emphasizing its relevance and importance for Europe’s food security.
In his speech, he pointed out that in recent years, there has been a worrying trend in European politics to undermine the role of animal husbandry and meat production, which are portrayed as environmentally unfriendly and responsible for climate change. He described this trend as ideological and—in his view—harmful to European agriculture and food security.
Joachim Brudziński also addressed regulations concerning so-called “novel foods,” noting that, in his view, they could be used as a tool to promote alternative food products at the expense of traditional agricultural production. He emphasized that consumers should not be—as he put it—deprived of access to high-quality European food in favor of products such as insect proteins.
According to the PiS MEP, European consumers expect transparency and the right to choose, rather than having traditional food replaced by alternative solutions introduced under the banner of innovation.
In closing his remarks, Joachim Brudziński stressed the need to protect the livestock sector and ensure stable operating conditions for farmers, emphasizing the importance of food security and the European Union’s food sovereignty.
