Kosma Złotowski: "Europe cannot just regulate; it must also educate, invest, and foster innovation"

Today in Strasbourg, during the ongoing plenary session of the European Parliament, a debate took place on the Artificial Intelligence Act. PiS MEP Kosma Złotowski spoke during the debate.

Kosma Złotowski stated that artificial intelligence “is changing our reality,” its capabilities are constantly growing, and the number of areas where it can be successfully applied is steadily increasing. As he noted, however, this comes with certain risks that cannot be ignored.

“We need not only clear criteria for assessing the safety of products and services that use AI, but also a list of prohibited applications of this technology—especially where public institutions use it,” the MEP emphasized.

The Polish politician noted that during the lengthy work on the regulation in question, the ECR’s priorities were successfully incorporated, such as an exemption for the research and development phase, fewer requirements and burdens for small and medium-sized enterprises, strengthening the role of regulatory sandboxes, and real guarantees for the protection of civil rights and privacy.

"Whether these regulations will be effective now depends on the competence and commitment of the member states and the authorities that will implement them. Europe cannot merely regulate; it must also educate, invest, and foster innovation. I hope the AI Act will not stand in the way of this!” he emphasized.
