Today in Strasbourg, during the European Parliament’s plenary session, a debate took place on the European Ombudsman’s 2022 annual report. PiS MEP Kosma Złotowski spoke during the discussion.
“Recent years have been marked by a string of scandals that have shaken the European Union’s already dire reputation as an institution and require decisive action, including from the European Ombudsman,” emphasized Kosma Złotowski.
The MEP addressed Emily O’Reilly, the European Ombudsman, who was present at the debate, praising her commitment to clarifying the ambiguities surrounding the Commission’s vaccine procurement. “The Qatargate scandal is the other side of the same coin. Addressing it is a prerequisite for the European Parliament to regain its credibility. We expect you not to allow the negligence that led to it to be swept under the rug,” he urged.
Złotowski also drew attention to Brussels’ acquiescence to the reprehensible power grab by the new government in Poland. "Ignoring the Constitution and laws, dismantling public media, and—most outrageously—the politically motivated imprisonment of opposition lawmakers Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik—are a affront to the rules of democracy," he emphasized.
In this context, the Polish politician also called on Emily O’Reilly to speak out “on the issue of hypocrisy, double standards, and the extreme politicization of European institutions.”
