Kosma Złotowski: “The EU’s complex regulatory policy makes it unprofitable to innovate in Europe”

During a plenary session at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, lawmakers discussed the European Innovation Act and the idea of reducing the costs of innovation in Europe. PiS MEP Kosma Złotowski spoke during the debate.

Kosma Złotowski noted that while it is encouraging that the EU has all the assets needed to be innovative—good universities, industry, and capital—its position in the global digital economy remains weak.

“Our regulatory policy is one of the reasons for this state of affairs. Complicated regulations, administrative barriers, and an unclear legislative process—all of this makes it simply not profitable to innovate in Europe, the Polish politician said.

In this context, he highlighted the recently adopted, extremely ambitious AI Act, as well as planned legislation such as the Directive on Liability for AI.

As he noted, successive regulations are beginning to overlap, contradict one another, and create impenetrable mazes, especially for SMEs. “If we don’t break this vicious cycle, we will be technologically colonized and reduced to the role of consumers of digital products from abroad, he stated.
