In Strasbourg, during the ongoing plenary session of the European Parliament, as part of the debates on human rights violations, democratic principles, and the rule of law, a debate took place regarding Azerbaijan’s unlawful detention and sham trial of Armenian hostages, including high-ranking political representatives from Nagorno-Karabakh. PiS MEP Małgorzata Gosiewska took the floor during the discussion and called for decisive action to resolve the situation in the Caucasus.
Małgorzata Gosiewska stated that the subject of today’s discussion and vote is another important resolution addressing the unlawful detention and show trials of Armenian hostages, including high-ranking political representatives from Nagorno-Karabakh.
As she explained, Azerbaijan’s complete annexation of Nagorno-Karabakh has triggered a humanitarian crisis and a mass exodus of the Armenian civilian population.
The PiS MEP emphasized the need to take concrete actions, namely: establishing a human rights monitoring mission, organizing talks between representatives of Azerbaijan and Armenia, and making future EU cooperation with Azerbaijan contingent on progress in the area of human rights.
“The EU has been interfering in Poland’s democratic order for years; now it plans to organize a ‘roundtable’ on the democratic presidential election in Poland this May to prevent a civic candidate from winning, yet it fails to react where human rights are truly being violated,” – stated Gosiewwska.
“Europe, this is no time for loud speeches and applause. I demand decisive action to resolve the real problem that the situation in the Caucasus undoubtedly is,” the Polish politician appealed.
