During a debate in the European Parliament on Belarus’s ongoing hybrid attacks against Lithuania, Małgorzata Gosiewska, a Law and Justice MEP, warned that the European Union’s eastern border has for years been the target of coordinated hybrid operations carried out by the regimes in Minsk and Moscow.
“Since 2021, the European Union’s eastern border has been subject to planned hybrid operations. These are not isolated incidents, but actions aimed at undermining the security of all of Europe,” Gosiewska emphasized.
The MEP recalled that strengthening security along the Polish-Belarusian border had been an effective response to migratory pressure. “It was the United Right government that built the barrier on the border with Belarus, effectively curbing the illegal influx of migrants. Today, Donald Tusk’s government is taking credit for these achievements, even though it had previously vigorously opposed these measures,” she noted.
As she pointed out, threats are currently escalating once again. “The illegal smuggling of migrants has returned. Soldiers and Border Guard officers are under attack,” the MEP said.
Małgorzata Gosiewska also drew attention to the growing terrorist threat linked to the activities of the Russian Federation and Belarus.
“It was recently revealed that Russian terrorists, suspected of attempting to derail trains on Polish territory, have found refuge in Belarus. This is further proof that Belarus serves as a base for Russia’s sabotage and terrorist activities,” she emphasized.
In the MEP’s view, the Polish government’s plans to open up the border barrier are particularly concerning. “Under the pretext of concern for animal welfare, the so-called Management Plan for the Białowieża Forest calls for opening up the barrier. This amounts to consenting to a further influx of illegal migrants and an increase in security threats,” she warned.
In conclusion, Gosiewska raised the question of the interests behind these decisions. “In whose interest are such actions being taken? Certainly not in the interest of Poland or the European Union,” she concluded.
