During the European Parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg, Małgorzata Gosiewska, a Law and Justice MEP, Małgorzata Gosiewska, took the floor in a debate on the dramatically deteriorating situation in Lebanon, calling for an immediate ceasefire and strong support from the international community.
In her remarks, she emphasized that the situation in Beirut and throughout the country is rapidly deteriorating, and that the conflict in the Middle East is spreading to new areas. She noted that southern Lebanon and the capital have become targets of intense attacks by the Israeli army, which are also affecting civilian neighborhoods. As a result of the military operations, thousands of people have lost their homes, and hundreds of thousands have been forced to flee.
The MEP cited data from the Lebanese Ministry of Health, according to which more than 2,500 people have been killed since March 2, nearly a quarter of whom are women, children, and medical workers.
Referring to recent events, she highlighted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to launch massive strikes against Hezbollah targets, which led to a further escalation of the conflict.
She devoted particular attention to the dramatic situation of Christians in southern Lebanon. The death of a Maronite priest, Father Pierre, who was killed while saving an injured parishioner, has become a symbol of this tragedy, she noted.
Despite a formally binding ceasefire, hostilities continue. In light of this, Małgorzata Gosiewska called for an immediate and genuine ceasefire, the resumption of dialogue, and active assistance from the international community.
She also emphasized that Lebanon—and its Christian communities in particular—cannot be left without support.
