Today in Strasbourg, during the ongoing plenary session of the European Parliament, a debate took place titled “Social Europe: Ensuring Affordability, Job Protection, Wages, and Healthcare for All.” PiS MEP Marlena Maląg spoke during the debate.
Marlena Maląg emphasized that “job security is the foundation of every person’s and every family’s well-being.” “Meanwhile, in my country, Poland, we are seeing a wave of layoffs, often in violation of workers’ rights,” the PiS MEP noted. The Polish politician reported that nearly 15,000 people have lost their jobs since the beginning of the year. As she emphasized, behind each of these people lies a tragedy—a person who doesn’t know how to pay their bills, who must find a way to support their family. “And yet, so many fine words have been spoken in this Chamber about protecting workers, respecting their rights, and expanding the scope of collective bargaining,” said the MEP, referring to the directive on adequate minimum wages. “But where are the actions?” she asked. Maląg noted that during the pandemic, the Law and Justice government saved thousands of jobs in Poland and proved that this is possible even under critical conditions. “That is why I urge decisive action to ensure employment stability and real protection of workers’ rights,” she appealed.
