Today in Brussels, during a mini-plenary session of the European Parliament, a debate took place on the situation in Hungary. Speaking on behalf of the ECR Group, PiS MEP Patryk Jaki criticized attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of EU member states.
“Let’s call a spade a spade—you’ve created a secret way to subsidize political parties of your choosing with money from all citizens, who don’t have a clue about it. You’re subsidizing organizations that you call ‘civil society’ with hundreds of millions of euros, but in reality, politicians are behind them and running illegal campaigns,” said Patryk Jaki, referring to the Katargate scandal. He pointed out that these organizations “supposedly focused on the rule of law in Poland, yet failed to notice the money from Qatar.”
He pointed out that a similar situation is unfolding during the current presidential campaign in Poland, where the most expensive Facebook campaign supporting the KO candidate is being financed from abroad “by third-sector organizations.” “By the way, your favorites, who used to be here often, without the required registration, without paying taxes, without anything. This is an unprecedented scandal,” the politician emphasized, adding that at the same time, the largest opposition party had been illegally stripped of all its budget funding. “And you call this a fair election? This is exactly what’s happening in Hungary. So transparency, transparency, and once again, transparency,” appealed the ECR leader.
