The ECR Group welcomes the joint vote by the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI), and the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) on the “Chemicals Omnibus VI” package, which simplifies regulations on chemical products. As Piotr Müller, IMCO’s co-rapporteur, emphasizes, the new measures reduce the burden on businesses, increase legal certainty, and support the competitiveness of European industry, while maintaining high safety standards.
After the vote, Piotr Müller said: “In a challenging economic context, characterized by high energy costs and intense global competition, it is crucial to give European industry more room to operate. This compromise provides tangible relief, increases legal certainty, and supports innovation in the single market.”
The package updates key EU regulations, including the Regulation on the Classification, Labeling, and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP), the Cosmetics Regulation, and the Fertilizers Regulation. It introduces targeted simplifications aimed at reducing administrative burdens, improving the applicability of the regulations, and increasing legal certainty for businesses, while maintaining a science-based system for protecting human health and the environment in the EU.
The ECR Group notes that these simplifications have been achieved while preserving key safety mechanisms. Decisions continue to be based on scientific knowledge, the protection of human health and the environment has been maintained, and a significant improvement in legal certainty has been ensured as the proposal moves to trilogue negotiations.
“This vote is a victory for common sense over excessive bureaucracy and a step toward restoring competitiveness, which the ECR Group has consistently sought,” concluded the co-author of the report on behalf of the ECR Group.
