PiS Members of the European Parliament in leadership positions in the European Parliament

Today, the European Parliament in Brussels held the constituent meetings of its committees, during which MEPs elected the chairs and vice-chairs.

PiS MEP Bogdan Rzońca was elected chair of the Committee on Petitions (PETI).

“The Committee on Petitions is tasked with ensuring that citizens have the opportunity to directly influence the exercise of power by reviewing the complaints or requests they submit for action by EU institutions. As its chair, I will strive to ensure that every voice is heard,” said the newly elected head of PETI.

PiS MEPs also assumed a number of positions as ECR Group coordinators in parliamentary committees:

  • Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET): Adam Bielan
  • Committee on Budgets (BUDG): Bogdan Rzońca
  • Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO): Piotr Müller
  • Committee on Industry, Research, and Energy (ITRE): Daniel Obajtek
  • Committee on Development (DEVE): Małgorzata Gosiewska
  • Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI): Tobiasz Bocheński
  • Committee on Petitions (PETI): Kosma Złotowski
  • Committee on Constitutional Affairs (AFCO): Patryk Jaki
  • Committee on Budgetary Control (CONT): Joachim Brudziński

Their role is to act as the group’s spokesperson regarding the work of their respective committee and to coordinate the work (including the assignment of reports and opinions) of the group’s members and their alternates serving on that committee. In addition, they represent their political groups and communicate with the committees’ secretariats on day-to-day matters, such as: selecting topics and experts for public hearings; deciding on the committees’ foreign missions; and drafting letters on behalf of each parliamentary committee. They also collaborate with rapporteurs and shadow rapporteurs to prepare voting lists that reflect the group’s position.
