In Strasbourg, during a plenary session of the European Parliament, a debate took place on changes to EU regulations concerning the return of individuals who do not have the right to remain in Europe. PiS MEPs Jadwiga Wiśniewska and Joachim Brudziński spoke during the discussion.
Jadwiga Wiśniewska said that Angela Merkel’s German open-door policy and the lack of an effective return policy have taken a deadly toll. “The knife attacks in Bavaria, Solingen, and Arras, in which people were killed by individuals who were supposed to have been deported, are a telling example of this,” the MEP noted, referring to the deep migration crisis. The Polish politician cited Frontex data, according to which the number of illegal migrants has exceeded 1.2 million. “In reality, it is several times higher,” she added.
Referring to Eurostat data, which shows that only one in four deportation orders is actually carried out, she stated that today “deportations are a fiction.”
Therefore, according to the PiS MEP, urgent and effective solutions are needed. Wiśniewska also pointed to the need to immediately return illegal migrants. "Without this, we will not resolve the migration crisis," she emphasized. Furthermore, she noted that the EU’s trade and visa cooperation with third countries must be contingent on those countries recognizing deportation decisions. Finally, according to Wiśniewska, return hubs outside the EU are essential, as is preventing individuals who are not entitled to asylum from entering EU territory. “Europe must finally wake up!” she urged.
Joachim Brudziński presented Eurostat data showing that between 2014 and 2023, EU member states issued 4.5 million return orders, of which only 1.3 million were effectively carried out. “Perhaps now is the time to ask ourselves: where did these millions of illegal migrants in our European home come from? Could it be that the idiotic ‘Herzlich Willkommen’ policy of countries like Angela Merkel’s Germany led to this situation? Perhaps it’s high time to say ‘I’m sorry’ here to Polish officers, the Polish police, and the border guards for the fact that, back when they were defending our European home against a flood of illegal immigrants, idiotic words were also being spoken from this very chamber: ‘Let them in, and we’ll see later who they are’?” commented the PiS MEP. As he stated, “It turned out who they were on the streets of Munich and other European cities.” “Stop this idiotic open-door policy for our European home,” the Polish politician urged.
