In Strasbourg, during a plenary session, the European Parliament discussed the issue of transparency and accountability of non-governmental organizations funded from the EU budget. Ryszard Czarnecki, former Vice President of the European Parliament, spoke during the debate.
The PiS MEP noted that it must be stated clearly that some non-governmental organizations have been or are currently being exploited by foreign states. He drew particular attention to Russian influence. Ryszard Czarnecki also added that the third sector should be trusted, but in his view, it is important to take into account that some NGOs may serve as instruments of Russian or other foreign influence. “As the ECR Group’s coordinator on the Committee on Budgetary Control (CONT), I believe we must scrutinize the proper spending of these funds very carefully in order to prevent corruption,” the Polish politician emphasized.
