Today in Brussels, during the first meeting of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice, and Home Affairs (LIBE), a debate took place with the participation of Ylva Johansson, Commissioner for Home Affairs, on the joint implementation plan for the Pact on Migration and Asylum. PiS MEP Maciej Wąsik took the floor during the debate.
Maciej Wąsik pointed out several contentious issues in Ylva Johansson’s remarks. Referring to the European solidarity mentioned by the Swedish commissioner, the PiS politician stated that the provisions of the migration pact “are not solidarity.” “This is an unfair imposition on member states that are not affected by illegal migration to the same extent as those countries that have pursued reckless migration policies in the past, which ultimately led to large numbers of illegal migrants in those countries,” he said.
The Polish MEP also noted that under the migration pact, smaller countries bear the costs of the migration policies pursued by larger countries.
“I don’t understand this at all, and I don’t know how to explain to Poles that, for example, they will have to accept migrants from Germany who arrived there at the invitation of Angela Merkel, who was loudly proclaiming at the time, ‘Herzlich Willkommen!’” – said Wąsik.
