Today, during the European Parliament’s plenary session, MEPs voted on a revision of EU climate legislation that introduces a binding target to reduce emissions by 90 percent by 2040. The ECR Group warns that the new regulations could weaken Europe’s competitiveness and negatively impact industry and social stability.
Anna Zalewska, a PiS MEP and ECR shadow rapporteur, comments: “The target of a 90 percent reduction in emissions by 2040 is unachievable without the risk of rising energy prices, deindustrialization, and a weakened economic resilience. Climate policy must be realistic, socially just, and economically sustainable.”
The ECR emphasizes that climate policy must take into account available technologies, energy security, and economic sustainability, as ignoring these factors risks job losses and a decline in Europe’s competitiveness without broad public support.
“Brussels has lost touch with reality. Only rational decisions will allow Europe to remain a strong, competitive, and energy-secure community,” adds Zalewska.
