Anna Zalewska on EU-U.S. Relations

Anna Zalewska on EU-U.S. Relations

In Strasbourg, during the ongoing plenary session of the European Parliament, a debate took place on relations between the EU and the U.S. PiS MEP Anna Zalewska spoke during the debate.

Anna Zalewska emphasized that it is in the EU’s interest to have a strong United States and a strong alliance and partnership with it. The MEP noted with dissatisfaction that voices are being heard in the European Parliament that foreshadow attempts to interfere in U.S. elections, and she stated:  “We very often experience precisely this kind of interference in elections in various countries on the part of the European Parliament or the European Commission, she noted.

Although she expressed satisfaction that voices from various countries, including Germany and France, had spoken out in support of EU-U.S. relations during this debate, she recalled that, at the same time, Germany had announced this year that it would reduce its contribution to the NATO budget, while the French president, in his statements, has distanced himself from the United States and NATO.

The MEP also shared her concerns regarding the controversial activities of Poland’s newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, Radosław Sikorski, who until recently was an EPP MEP. As she recalled, he was recently the talk of all of Russia and featured on every Russian TV news ticker when, in response to the destruction of a section of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, he tweeted that he “thanks” the United States.
