During a meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI), an exchange of views took place with Commissioner Christoph Hansen on the future of agriculture in the context of the new “Vision for Agriculture and Food,” which is set to be published by the European Commission on February 19. PiS MEP Anna Zalewska spoke on behalf of the ECR Group.
Speaking about the future of agriculture, the PiS MEP said that the Commission must, above all, clearly state whether the Common Agricultural Policy will continue after 2027. Zalewska made these remarks in the context of a statement by the European Commission President, who announced that “instead of the CAP, there will be 27 portfolios assigned to member states.” “Second, I would like you to distance yourself from the strategic dialogue on which—it seems—Ursula von der Leyen spent 150,000 euros, and which is intended to lead to a carbon emissions trading system (ETS) in agriculture,” the PiS MEP urged. Finally, the Polish politician spoke of the need for a thorough review of all agreements and their impact on agricultural policy and trade, a withdrawal from the agreement with Mercosur, and a clear, unambiguous statement on Ukraine. In this context, Zalewska also renewed her invitation to the Commissioner to visit Poland and called for a meeting with farmers who are particularly affected by these consequences. Furthermore, the Polish MEP emphasized that the European Commission’s document should include a provision on the exclusive competence of member states in the area of forestry and on equal subsidies.
