Anna Zalewska on the water resilience strategy: “The proposal is unrealistic”

A debate on the European water resilience strategy took place in Strasbourg during a plenary session of the European Parliament. PiS MEP Anna Zalewska spoke during the debate

Anna Zalewska said that while the idea of a water resilience strategy is good, the proposal is, unfortunately, unrealistic. According to the Polish politician, there are several problematic elements in the proposal. As she pointed out, first of all, it cannot encroach on the competences of member states. “Furthermore, it does not specify sources of funding. It must not lead to yet another wave of excessive bureaucracy. It must, in turn, identify technical and technological possibilities, because the ENVI Committee’s communication contains phrases that have nothing to do with physics, chemistry, or engineering,” the Polish politician noted.

Zalewska emphasized that we cannot keep churning out more and more documents. “After all, we haven’t even finished the trilogue discussions on water purity and quality, and we’re already proposing new solutions, she added.

Finally, the PiS MEP stressed that for there to be any chance of implementing anything or engaging in a discussion with Europeans, a thorough analysis and assessment of what has been done based on the dozens of previous documents is needed.
