Arkadiusz Mularczyk: "Cooperation with NATO and EU solidarity are essential to effectively enforce sanctions and weaken Russia's war machine."

In Strasbourg, during the plenary session, one of the debates focused on EU measures targeting Russia’s shadow fleet and ensuring full enforcement of sanctions against Russia. Speaking on behalf of the ECR Group, PiS MEP Arkadiusz Mularczyk addressed the discussion.

Arkadiusz Mularczyk said: “In light of the war in Ukraine and Russia’s attempts to circumvent sanctions using its shadow fleet, on my own behalf and on behalf of my country—Poland—I call for decisive action by the European Union in cooperation with NATO.” The Polish politician emphasized that strengthening the mechanism for monitoring maritime routes and tightening sanctions against entities supporting this operation is crucial to effectively halt the financing of Russian aggression against Ukraine.

The PiS MEP noted that Poland has invested significant funds in maritime infrastructure to reduce Russian influence in the Baltic Sea, so that Polish vessels would not have to seek permission from the Russian Federation to enter Polish territorial waters. “We did this despite the European Commission’s reservations regarding this investment, Mularczyk noted, recalling that the Law and Justice government, by carrying out the Vistula Spit canal project, secured Poland’s sovereignty in the Baltic Sea. The politician pointed out that especially now, in the context of Finland and Sweden’s accession to NATO, international cooperation and EU solidarity are essential to effectively enforce sanctions and weaken the Russian war machine. “That is why the European Union and NATO should take all possible measures regarding the Baltic Sea areas belonging to European Union member states to enforce EU sanctions through maritime inspections and the coordination of international actions,” he urged.
