At the European Parliament in Brussels, during a joint meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) and the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Interparliamentary Cooperation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, a discussion took place on EU sanctions against Russia and its allies, as well as the use of frozen Russian assets. Speaking on behalf of the ECR Group, PiS MEP Arkadiusz Mularczyk called for greater EU solidarity and tighter sanctions against Moscow.
Arkadiusz Mularczyk emphasized how important the dialogue between the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Verkhovna Rada is, both for the European Parliament and for Ukraine.
The PiS MEP recalled that from the very beginning of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, Poland has done everything possible to ensure that Ukraine wins this war. “This included not only massive shipments of military equipment delivered via Rzeszów-Jasionka, but also the reception of millions of Ukrainian war refugees, as well as active support for sanctions against Russia, which are necessary to win this war,” Mularczyk added.
The Polish politician emphasized continued solidarity with Kyiv and said that everything possible must be done to strengthen Ukraine’s resilience and support it in defending its country, its sovereignty, and its democratic values.
“Today, we must make it clear that Ukraine is also defending the European Union’s borders against this aggression, which is why we, as the European Union, must stand in solidarity with it,” the PiS politician urged.
The MEP also pointed out that there are still companies in European Union countries—mainly German ones—that are circumventing sanctions in order to maintain further ties with the Russian economy. "We absolutely must tighten the sanctions to support Ukraine and deal the hardest possible blow to the Russian economy," he emphasized.
