Today in Strasbourg, during the European Parliament’s plenary session, a debate took place on the wave of violence and the continued use of force against protesters in Serbia. PiS MEP Arkadiusz Mularczyk spoke on behalf of the ECR Group.
The PiS politician said that we have been watching with concern the wave of violence against peaceful demonstrators in Serbia since last fall. “The use of force against citizens who oppose the authorities’ decisions is unacceptable,” the PiS politician emphasized.
He noted that the Balkans is a region where Russia and China have a strong presence. “Our support for the pro-European spirit of societies—not only in Serbia but throughout the Balkan Six—is crucial,” he stressed. The politician also pointed out that the European Union is not without fault: the Western Balkans’ path to membership is taking too long, and the lack of a clear perspective only emboldens those who seek to destabilize the region at the very heart of the continent.
“We must clearly express our solidarity with the citizens, support their European aspirations, and firmly say ‘no’ to violence against protesters,” he emphasized.
