During the European Parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg, in a debate on the escalation of the war and the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, PiS MEP Arkadiusz Mularczyk expressed deep concern over the tragic situation in that country, noting that the conflict poses a serious threat not only to its inhabitants but also to Europe’s stability and security.
Mularczyk drew attention to the dramatic situation in Sudan, where fighting between the Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces has led to immense suffering among civilians—the deaths of thousands of people, malnutrition, mass displacement, and a widespread lack of access to humanitarian aid. According to him, more than half of the country’s population needs immediate support.
The MEP emphasized that the consequences of this conflict extend beyond Sudan’s borders. “Instability in Northeast Africa paves the way for extremists and human traffickers, and successive waves of refugees fleeing violence and hunger will seek shelter in Europe,” Mularczyk warned.
In light of this, Mularczyk called on the European Union to take decisive action: to maintain sanctions against individuals and entities responsible for the conflict, to eliminate corruption from humanitarian aid channels, to support the peace process under the auspices of the UN and the African Union, and to curb the illegal flow of weapons and funding to the parties to the conflict.
According to the politician, only the establishment of lasting peace in Sudan can bring about real improvement—not only for the Sudanese people themselves, but also for Europe’s security. “Peace in Sudan means greater stability in the region and a lower risk of destabilization for us as well,” Mularczyk concluded.
