A debate on rising energy prices and the fight against energy poverty took place in Strasbourg during a plenary session of the European Parliament. PiS MEP Beata Szydło spoke during the discussion.
Beata Szydło stated that the problem of high energy prices, the lack of competitiveness in the European economy, and the European Union’s increasingly serious difficulties stem from the Green Deal. She noted that it is an ill-conceived and ill-suited program, “which was pushed through solely for political and ideological reasons.”
“Although we all realize that the transition must take place, it cannot proceed in this manner,” said the former Polish prime minister. She added that lessons must be learned from these mistakes. “People should be able to afford heating and pay their bills. Entrepreneurs should have the opportunity to continue production in Europe,” she pointed out, arguing that this is in the interest of the entire European Union. “Meanwhile, we’ve reached a point where people are paying their electricity bills and crying, and entrepreneurs are laying off workers and having to close their businesses,” commented the Polish politician.
Beata Szydło appealed to the European Commission to draw conclusions from this during its next term. “We must finally ensure that the Commission’s programs are adapted to the actual capabilities and needs of Europeans,” urged the PiS MEP.
