Today, during the European Parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg, a debate took place on “recent legislation targeting LGBTQI people” and “the need to protect the rule of law and a Union free from discrimination.” PiS MEP Maciej Wąsik spoke during the discussion.
Wąsik emphasized that Poland is a tolerant country and that people with different sexual orientations are not discriminated against. He noted that the Polish Constitution contains a widely respected provision guaranteeing legal protection of private, family, and personal life. “But in Poland, parents also have the right to raise their children in accordance with their own beliefs,” the politician said, pointing out that this right is currently being violated in Poland. “Instead of optional family life education, the Tusk government is introducing a new mandatory subject into the curriculum that, starting in the fourth grade of elementary school, includes, among other things, the affirmation of autosexual activities and LGBT orientation,” the MEP explained. “Let everyone decide about their own private life, but we cannot take away parents’ right to raise their children in accordance with their values,” he noted. He emphasized that taking away parents’ right to decide and imposing sexualization on children against their parents’ will constitutes discrimination. “That is why the Polish public is protesting against these bills today. The comfort of minorities cannot take precedence over the rights of the majority. Let’s protect our children,” appealed the PiS politician.
