Today in Strasbourg, on the third day of the European Parliament’s plenary session, a debate was held on the Clean Industrial Deal presented by the European Commission in February 2025. Speaking on behalf of the ECR Group, PiS MEP Daniel Obajtek took the floor during the discussion.
Daniel Obajtek said that the fact that Europe is in the midst of an industrial crisis is very evident today. The PiS politician noted that the U.S. GDP is currently more than $9 trillion higher than Europe’s, even though just 10 years ago, Europe was ahead of the U.S. in this regard.
The MEP pointed out that today the EU faces a massive problem with its industry—not only with energy-intensive industries, but also with other sectors. “We have issues with the petrochemical industry; we’re struggling with Russian oil and gas, but we don’t see that products made from Russian oil and gas are flooding the European market, destroying the entire petrochemical industry, which will soon be irreparable,” — Obajtek warned, noting that the crisis has also affected, for example, the pharmaceutical industry, which is “rapidly leaving Europe.” “Europe is slowly turning into a desert,” said the PiS MEP. At the same time, he stated that not all of the proposed solutions are bad, but the problem is a lack of time. “Industry needs a lifeline right here and now, very quickly, and that lifeline must be very simple—the suspension and reform of the ETS,” — Obajtek argued, noting that the ETS currently does not serve the interests of technology but is primarily used to “speculate on prices and plug budget holes.” “We must change this as soon as possible,” the politician emphasized, calling for immediate action in this regard.
