A debate took place at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on the single market as the “key to growth and future prosperity in Europe.” ECR MEPs Piotr Müller and Jacek Ozdoba participated in the discussion.
Piotr Müller emphasized that the single market is a guarantee of faster growth for Europe. “But for this to be possible, we must focus on simplifying regulations and creating a common legal framework so that there are as few such barriers as possible within Europe,” noted the PiS politician. In the MEP’s view, the trend in recent years has, unfortunately, been exactly the opposite. He recalled that, for example, the Mobility Package had hit Polish carriers who wanted to compete within the EU. “The Posted Workers Directive has, in effect, restricted internal competition within the European Union,” — said Müller, noting that at the same time, goods from China enter Europe with virtually no restrictions, regardless of human rights violations or disregard for environmental requirements there. “That is why today we must say plainly: the single market within the European Union must exist, but we must vigorously defend our borders against unfair competition from outside,” the politician urged, pointing in this context to the threat posed by both China and the agreement with the Mercosur countries.
“The recipe for a good, single market could be implemented on Thursday—that is, the dismissal of Ursula von der Leyen,” said Jacek Ozdoba, noting that the European Union’s current climate and economic policies are harming the competitiveness of member states. “Europe can calculate CO2 emissions in metric tons, but it cannot count how many factories and jobs are being driven off the continent. We’re paying two or three times more for energy and several times more for ideology,” he noted. He added that this is precisely why the answer to the question of what to do during Thursday’s votes is obvious—“Ursula von der Leyen, who is harming Europe and the single market, must be dismissed.”
In his view, Europe is becoming carbon-neutral not because it is effectively carrying out an energy transition, but because it is losing jobs, closing factories, curtailing its own production, and becoming increasingly dependent on external sources of supply. “Over the past few years, Europe hasn’t moved forward—it has fallen flat on its face. Today we are witnessing its agony, which poses a serious danger,” Ozdoba said.
The Polish politician also drew attention to Europe’s progressive loss of sovereignty, particularly in the context of the Mercosur agreement, which deals a blow to European agriculture, food security, and the supply of raw materials and products. “All of this has led to a situation in which Europe’s dependence and decline are unfolding before our very eyes. And the response to all of this is: you can remove Ursula von der Leyen from office,” he emphasized.
