During the European Parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg, as part of debates on violations of human rights, democratic principles, and the rule of law, the issue of mass abductions of children in Nigeria—including from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri—was discussed.” Arkadiusz Mularczyk, a Law and Justice MEP, took the floor during the discussion, who called for an end to political correctness and for Islamic terrorists to be unequivocally identified as the perpetrators of mass child abductions and the persecution of Christians in Nigeria, noting that Europe’s silence also poses a threat to its own security.
In his speech, the PiS MEP recalled the account of Nigerian Bishop Wilfred Anagbe, whose testimony regarding years of persecution of Christians in Nigeria he had heard during a previous session of the European Parliament. “After that meeting, the bishop was ‘greeted’ in the Parliament’s hallway by a group of left-wing radicals carrying pro-abortion banners. This scene clearly illustrates the attitude of some liberal-left circles in Europe toward the greatest contemporary religious persecution,” emphasized Arkadiusz Mularczyk.
The MEP pointed out that in Nigeria alone, tens of thousands of people have fallen victim to religiously motivated violence, and the current debate concerns the particularly dramatic phenomenon of mass abductions of children, including students from Catholic schools. “Today’s debate serves as a reminder that Islamists do not even spare children,” he noted.
Arkadiusz Mularczyk criticized the lack of courage among some MEPs in unequivocally identifying the perpetrators of violence. “Too many of my colleagues lack the courage to say outright who is the perpetrator and who is the victim, hiding behind political correctness,” he said.
In his speech, he emphasized that defending persecuted Christians is not only a moral obligation but also a matter of security.
“Islamic terrorists will not be satisfied with the extermination of defenseless people in Nigeria. Any one of us—here, in the heart of Europe—could become the next target of their aggression,” he warned.
In conclusion, the PiS MEP called for a change in approach to the problem of religious persecution.
“If moral arguments don’t convince you, at least show some self-preservation instinct and start calling things by their proper names,” he concluded.
