On the second day of the European Parliament’s mini-plenary session in Brussels, a discussion and vote were held on the reform of the energy and electricity markets, including renewable gases, natural gas, and hydrogen. PiS MEP Grzegorz Tobiszowski spoke during the debate.
Grzegorz Tobiszowski noted that today’s debate and vote mark the conclusion of two years of work on the gas and hydrogen package. The MEP, thanking all the rapporteurs and shadow rapporteurs, emphasized that a consensus had been reached on this very important document, “which is a rarity in this House.” “We’ve managed to reach an agreement in the European Parliament; we’ve arrived at forward-looking solutions. What united us was the recognition that hydrogen is the fuel of the future, which will replace higher-emission energy sources in many sectors; the only thing that divides us is the path we take to reach specific solutions,” the Polish politician noted. The PiS MEP added that concern for the climate is an issue that transcends political divisions. “Hydrogen is a fuel that will be used in the future in sectors such as the steel industry, maritime transport, and fertilizer production. It will also enable the development of innovative solutions and reduce dependence on raw material supplies, primarily gas from outside the EU,” Tobiszowski explained.
He also emphasized that this document provides the legal foundation for investments and hydrogen transmission infrastructure, “thanks to which we can focus on hydrogen production technology that will enable the most efficient use of this fuel in the energy sector.”
