During the European Parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg, in a debate on ensuring clean, independent, and secure energy for Europe in the wake of the 2026 North Sea Region Summit, MEP Jacek Ozdoba sharply criticized the European Union’s energy policy, pointing out that Europe is in the midst of an energy crisis that has become a persistent problem for businesses and member states.
“It is a fact that the Greens have made the energy crisis a permanent feature that affects everyone. But where is the Europe that should show solidarity with the countries that spoke the truth and warned against this?” Ozdoba asked.
The MEP also highlighted the inconsistency of the EU’s actions toward member states, pointing to differing approaches to financial sanctions and climate policy.
“Where is the Europe that talks about solidarity, yet freezes funds for Hungary under Viktor Orbán’s rule? Where is the Europe that froze funds for Poland because it didn’t like the government? Where is the Europe that invents green energy just to destroy the energy security system?” he asked.
Ozdoba added that politicians who had previously warned of the consequences of misguided energy decisions were ignored.
“Orbán is not a hypocrite, nor is Party Chairman Jarosław Kaczyński, nor are those who warned us. The hypocrites are those who have destroyed Europe’s energy security,” he concluded.
In his speech, the MEP called for ensuring safe, independent, and clean energy for Europe, criticizing the EU’s actions to date and emphasizing the need for genuine solidarity among member states in the face of the crisis.
