During the European Parliament’s September plenary session in Strasbourg, a debate was held titled “Gaza on the Brink: EU Actions to Combat Hunger and the Urgent Need to Free Hostages and Implement a Two-State Solution.” During the discussion with EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas, PiS MEP Joachim Brudziński spoke.
“In the shadow of this immense tragedy—the war between Israel and Hamas—in the shadow of the unimaginable suffering of millions of civilians, in the shadow of death and displacement, as well as hunger and the lack of access to basic necessities for the residents of Gaza, the Israeli authorities’ announcement that the gates of hell will open upon Hamas shows where hatred and an unwillingness to reconcile lead on the part of those who invoke the same father, the biblical Abraham,” said Joachim Brudziński. He also pointed out that, in the shadow of this tragedy—the war between followers of Judaism and Islam—there is immense suffering among Christians who have lived in Israel and Palestine for centuries. He noted with concern that their numbers are rapidly declining. In this context, he recalled the barbaric bombing in July of this year by the Israeli army of the Catholic Church of the Holy Family in central Gaza. The PiS MEP also pointed to the constant attacks by Islamic extremists against Christians. “These attacks are not only part of the long history of Christian suffering in the Holy Land, but they also show that Israel’s multi-faith heritage is inevitably becoming a thing of the past,” he noted. The Polish politician also cited the important words of the Christian patriarchs of Jerusalem, who emphasize that there will be no peace without a genuine return to the roots of Judeo-Christian civilization.
