Today in Strasbourg, during the ongoing plenary session of the European Parliament, a debate took place on the type approval of motor vehicles and engines with regard to emissions and battery durability (Euro 7). PiS MEP Kosma Złotowski spoke during the debate.
“The European Union’s climate ambitions come at a specific cost, which will ultimately be borne not by Commission officials or climate activists, but by entrepreneurs and citizens,” stated the Polish MEP.
As he emphasized, transportation is one of the most important sectors of the economy. “Not only does it create jobs and generate profits, but it also ensures supplies for industry and trade,” Złotowski noted, pointing out that for Poland, it is one of the key industries in the service sector.
The MEP stated that the new emissions standards for trucks and delivery vehicles represent, above all, a cost that could be devastating for small and medium-sized businesses forced to replace their fleets. As he explained, under the EURO 6 standard, older vehicles—including passenger cars—will certainly be subject to additional fees and pushed off the roads and out of cities.
According to Złotowski, the effectiveness of such regulations is also questionable in and of itself, as proven by the Dieselgate scandal.
“Today we already know that behind the facade of the Green Deal lie enormous costs, an economic crisis, and Europe’s dependence on products from China. It’s time to say STOP to this madness!” he urged.
