Kosma Złotowski: "The single market must work in practice, not just in theory"

Kosma Złotowski: "The single market must work in practice, not just in theory"

During a debate in the European Parliament on the future of the single market, PiS MEP Kosma Złotowski emphasized that the European Union should focus on strengthening the single market and removing existing barriers, rather than expanding its activities into areas beyond its core competencies. As an example of the problem, he cited, among other things, geo-blocking, which, in his view, undermines the principle of the free movement of services.

The politician stressed that the single market remains one of the most important projects of European integration and should be one of the European Union’s top priorities.

“Instead of dealing with matters for which the Union was never intended—such as the absurd European Green Deal policy, which brings more costs than real benefits—we should focus on developing the single market,” said the MEP.

Złotowski pointed out that despite many years of integration, there are still many areas where the single market does not function fully. One of these is the services market, particularly digital services.

The MEP highlighted the problem of geo-blocking, which affects many European Union citizens traveling between member states.

“We go on vacation and suddenly find that we can’t watch the next episode of our favorite TV series because the necessary license isn’t valid in that country. It’s a simple example, but it clearly illustrates the scale of the problem, he noted.

As he emphasized, barriers of this kind undermine one of the fundamental principles of the single market: the free movement of goods and services.

“If the single market is to be more than just a slogan, we must consistently remove such barriers, the MEP concluded.
