Today in Strasbourg, during the European Parliament’s plenary session, a debate took place on ensuring the proper functioning of the solidarity corridors between the EU and Ukraine. PiS MEP Kosma Złotowski spoke during the debate.
Kosma Złotowski stated that the agreement with Ukraine is justified. “Unblocking exports, including grain, was beneficial to both sides, and facilitating the delivery of arms and humanitarian aid was an important element in supporting Kyiv’s war effort,” the MEP argued.
As he noted, however, not all elements of this agreement are functioning properly. He pointed out that carriers from Poland, as well as from Hungary and Slovakia, are facing discrimination from the Ukrainian authorities. Furthermore, he said, there is also a reasonable suspicion that carriers from Ukraine are conducting unauthorized operations on the internal market without being subject to the restrictive requirements of the Mobility Package. “This is unfair competition! We expect the European Commission to hear the carriers’ complaints and conduct a detailed analysis of the agreement’s impact on the European road transport sector before extending it for another year,” he urged. The Polish politician emphasized that if changes are needed—such as the reintroduction of permits or additional inspections—then they must be implemented.
“If we ourselves do not respect our companies, Ukraine certainly won’t either!” he stated.
