In Brussels, during a meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI), an exchange of views took place with European Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič on the future of agriculture in the EU. PiS MEP Krzysztof Jurgiel spoke during the discussion.
Krzysztof Jurgiel said that the discussion on the future of agriculture and rural areas should focus on eliminating dependencies and strengthening the agricultural sector’s resilience to crises, ensuring the profitability of agricultural production and decent incomes for farmers, as well as ensuring food security. “The factors influencing the future of agriculture include the shape of the European Green Deal, the expansion of the European Union, increased funding, the terms of trade agreements, and effective coordination of EU policies,” the MEP noted. The former minister of agriculture noted that the most anticipated outcome is the development and definition of a concrete vision for the future of European agriculture, as well as an assessment of the challenges and needs it faces. “This could serve as the basis for developing future policy solutions affecting agriculture and rural development in Europe, including solutions for the future Common Agricultural Policy,” the Polish politician added.
