Professor Ryszard Legutko, on behalf of the Law and Justice delegation in the European Parliament, submitted a parliamentary question today to the European Commission regarding a scandalous video posted on the profile of its president, Urszula von der Leyen, on the X platform, which concerned International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The post suggested Polish involvement in the crime of genocide, while omitting the involvement of the Germans.
“On January 27, a video marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day was posted on X on the profile of European Commission President Urszula von der Leyen, in which European leaders, including the Commission President herself, were naming the victims of the German occupation. During their remarks, captions displaying the victims’ dates of birth, as well as the dates and places of their deaths, were shown; however, the video repeatedly included the misleading statement: “Auschwitz camp, Poland,” suggesting that Poland had anything to do with the concentration camps,” the parliamentary question reads.
In light of the above, the ECR Group leader asks why the European Commission is once again consciously and deliberately misleading the public and attempting to distort historical facts by shifting responsibility for the crimes of genocide away from its true perpetrators—the Germans. Furthermore, Prof. Legutko inquires about the measures the Commission intends to take to prevent such distortions in the future, as well as whether the Commission President intends to issue an official apology to Poland.
