Małgorzata Gosiewska on the occasion of Belarusian Freedom Day: "A free and independent Belarus lives on in the hearts of millions of Belarusians. And one day, it will prevail."

On the occasion of the 107th anniversary of the proclamation of the Belarusian Democratic Republic, Małgorzata Gosiewska, chair of the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with Belarus, issued a statement yesterday in which she "expresses solidarity with the courageous people of Belarus who—just like their ancestors in 1918— — continue to fight for the sovereignty, freedom, and European future of their homeland, standing up to the oppressive state apparatus, the corrupt judicial system, and the brutal police forces.”

Magłorzata Gosiewska said: “On this historic day, March 25, we commemorate a courageous act of defiance—the proclamation of independence of the Belarusian People’s Republic.

It was a cry for freedom, the voice of a nation that longed to be the master of its own destiny. Though the storms of history have swept across your land, the spirit of that independence has never been extinguished.

Today, our thoughts and hearts are with you—with everyone who believes in freedom, in truth, and in human dignity. Our prayers and our solidarity are with you. We remember the political prisoners, those who suffer simply because they dared to speak the truth and love their homeland.

May this day be not only a remembrance, but also a source of hope. For freedom is stronger than violence, and truth is stronger than propaganda. A free and independent Belarus lives on in the hearts of millions. And one day—it will prevail. Жыве Беларусь! (Long live Belarus!)"
