In Strasbourg, during the European Parliament’s plenary session, a debate took place on the immediate risk of further repression by the Lukashenko regime in Belarus.
Speaking on behalf of the ECR Group, Małgorzata Gosiewska, chair of the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with Belarus, addressed the discussion.
The PiS MEP said: “Today, in the heart of Europe, we must say it loud and clear: Belarus is Europe’s bleeding wound!”Gosiewska mentioned the women being held captive—Viktoria Kulsza, imprisoned for 1,605 days; Volha Majorawa, for 1,544 days; and Alona Hnauk, for 1,172 days. “These women are not prisoners—they are hostages of Lukashenko’s regime!” she emphasized.
Gosiewska described in detail the dramatic situation these women find themselves in. “Wiktoria Kulsza is dying before our very eyes. She is going through the hell of torture! Suicide attempts, hunger strikes, the destruction of her body and mind. The prison administration has turned the prison into a 21st-century concentration camp,” the MEP said. She added that Volha Majorava, despite losing her sight, is being denied medical treatment. “The regime has labeled her a ‘terrorist’ so it can slowly kill her,” she added.
“Alona Hnauk, for her part, does not know that her children have fled the persecution. Cut off from the world, brutally exploited, stripped of her dignity,” said Małgorzata Gosiewska.
The Polish MEP also recalled Andrzej Poczobut, a Polish-Belarusian journalist and prisoner of conscience who is being held in a maximum-security penal colony and subjected to psychological and physical repression, “simply for being a voice of truth.”
“Europe must act immediately!” Gosiewska appealed, emphasizing that every day of delay means more victims of Lukashenko’s terror. “We demand the immediate release of political prisoners! We demand sanctions; we demand the isolation of the regime! We must fight—for the truth, for freedom, for the lives of those who are Lukashenko’s hostages today!” urged the PiS MEP.
