Today, during the ongoing mini-session of the European Parliament and the debate on the first European annual report on asylum and migration and the establishment of an annual solidarity fund, Mariusz Kamiński, a Law and Justice MEP, expressed strong opposition to the mechanisms provided for in the so-called migration pact.
“We are entering the first stage of implementing the migration pact. The very fact that the Commission’s proposal on relocation is coming with a significant delay demonstrates the scale of controversy this mechanism is causing among member states,” Kamiński emphasized.
The MEP noted that from Poland’s perspective, the migration pact is unacceptable. “We do not consent to any relocation to our country of illegal migrants currently in the territory of other EU member states. We do not consent to forced solidarity involving the financing of illegal migrants’ stay within the EU,” he said.
Mariusz Kamiński also cited the position of Polish President Karol Nawrocki, who, in a letter to the President of the European Commission, unequivocally emphasized: “Poles will never agree to this.”
According to the MEP, the migration pact does not solve any of the problems related to the migration crisis in Europe; rather, it exacerbates them.
“The only effective means of combating illegal migration is the firm defense of the EU’s external borders, a decisive restriction of the right to asylum, and a consistently implemented readmission policy—that is, the deportation of illegal migrants to their countries of origin. Only in this way can we ensure the safety of our citizens and preserve Europe’s identity,” Mariusz Kamiński concluded his remarks.
