Today in Strasbourg, during the European Parliament’s plenary session, there was a discussion on the communication published on March 5 of this year by the European Commission regarding the Union of Skills (Union of Skills), published on March 5 of this year, which highlights the need to develop the European Union’s human capital in order to strengthen our continent’s competitiveness. PiS MEP Marlena Maląg spoke during the discussion.
Marlena Maląg commended the Commission for finally recognizing the problem of skills shortages in the EU; however, as she pointed out, the Commission had taken up the issue too late, since “it has been clear for years that the lack of industry specialists would become one of the greatest challenges.” “Meanwhile, in Poland, under the Law and Justice government, the modernization of vocational education began long ago, preparing young people for the real needs of the labor market,” the Polish MEP noted.
Maląg also spoke about the “real crisis” currently affecting agriculture and fisheries. “The government points to a dramatic shortage of workers, but do they ever ask themselves why this is happening?” the MEP asked, noting that the Green Deal, successive fishing quotas, and bureaucracy do not help multi-generational farms survive. “If we want to fix this situation, nice slogans and declarations aren’t enough. We need to finally face the truth and start taking action here and now,” she urged.
