Today in Strasbourg, discussions focused on the social and labor aspects of restructuring processes and the need to protect jobs and workers’ rights. PiS MEP Marlena Maląg spoke during the discussion.
Marlena Maląg emphasized that social dialogue and respect for collective bargaining agreements should form the foundation of restructuring processes, so that workers can be afforded special protection during these difficult times. “In my country, the birthplace of the ‘Solidarity’ trade union, which changed the course of history in Europe, the rights of workers and union members are not respected today,” the Polish politician said, referring to the thousands of layoffs at Poczta Polska and PKP Cargo. “This is not only about the layoffs of experienced workers and the tragedy facing many Polish families, but also a blow to sectors that are strategic from the perspective of national security and development,” she noted. According to the MEP, it must be made clear that these layoffs are one of many negative effects of climate policy, and without a revision of that policy, there can be no talk of defending jobs and competitiveness in the European Union. “Do we have the courage to act? Or will we continue to pretend that the problem doesn’t exist?” asked the Polish politician.
