Marlena Maląg on Demographic Challenges in the EU

Marlena Maląg on Demographic Challenges in the EU

A debate titled “Addressing Demographic Challenges in the EU—Implementing the 2023 Demographic Toolkit” took place in Strasbourg during a plenary session of the European Parliament. PiS MEP Marlena Maląg spoke during the debate.

“We are facing a demographic tsunami, stated Marlena Maląg. She cited data from experts who warn that starting in 2026, the European Union’s population will begin to decline, and in some countries this decline could reach as much as 30 percent. She also pointed out that within 25 years, Africa’s population will increase by 1.3 billion people, which will further intensify migratory pressure on Europe. “The European Commission must wake up and take measures appropriate to the needs, rather than pushing through illusory and meaningless solutions, the Polish politician urged. She noted that instead of supporting families and creating conditions for higher birth rates, we are pushing for equality agendas and regulations that have no bearing on our demographic future. She stated that opening borders to migrants will not solve the problem but will, in fact, exacerbate it. “If we do not take swift action, Europe will become weak and uncompetitive, she said. She recalled that in Poland, under the Law and Justice government, a demographic strategy was adopted and a Government Plenipotentiary for Demographic Policy was appointed. She noted with regret that today this strategy is not being implemented. “It’s time for a policy change! Not tomorrow, not in a month—but now, before it’s too late, the MEP urged.
