On the third day of the European Parliament’s October plenary session in Strasbourg, a debate was held on the Second World Summit on Social Development, which will take place from November 4 to 6, 2025, in Qatar. Marlena Maląg, a PiS MEP, spoke on behalf of the ECR Group.
“Is the traditional family important? Yes. But not for Europe. Is the lack of control over migration a problem? Yes. But not for Europe. Does the lack of housing for young people hinder population growth? Yes. But not according to Europe,” said Marlena Maląg, highlighting the growing gap between reality and the European Union’s political priorities. She noted that Europe is heading toward stagnation, and that social issues mirror economic problems. “The lack of generational replacement, the family crisis, reckless migration policy, poverty, regional inequalities, youth unemployment, and the looming crisis of pension systems” — she listed, pointing out that these are not empty slogans but real threats that require immediate action.
The MEP emphasized that the summit in Qatar is an important opportunity to realize that these problems will not disappear on their own and, without effective solutions, will only worsen—day by day, month by month, year by year.
“We need to wake up. Step out of our comfort zone. Return to our roots,” Marlena Maląg urged, noting that this is possible only through the family. “The traditional family—one that’s out of fashion in Europe and treated as a brake on progress,” she added. “Only then will we do what will help Europe in the long run. We will reverse the catastrophic demographic trends—not in spite of the family, but thanks to the family,” concluded Marlena Maląg.
