Piotr Müller calls for the creation of conditions conducive to the development of innovation

Today in Strasbourg, during the European Parliament’s plenary session, a debate took place titled “Promoting EU Digital Regulations: Protecting European Sovereignty.” Speaking on behalf of the ECR Group, PiS MEP Piotr Müller called for simplifying regulations, moving away from isolationism, and finding ways to lower energy prices.

Piotr Müller emphasized that strengthening sovereignty does not require creating a regulatory straitjacket. “Sovereignty means the freedom to act for our companies and for the scientists who drive innovation. And innovation is only possible when there is some risk, because innovation arises from freedom and from taking that risk,” explained the PiS MEP, noting that the European Commission seeks to minimize risk in many digital areas. “And without risk, there is no innovation. Therefore, this is not the path we should take,” he emphasized.

The PiS politician also noted that sovereignty does not necessarily mean isolation. “Let’s distinguish between building sovereignty and fostering isolationism, which has probably never been good for Europe, he urged.

In addition, Müller also raised the issue of energy prices in the context of digital sovereignty and technological solutions. He noted that digital solutions, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence, are extremely energy-intensive. He stated that, as a result, we must find a way to make electricity in Europe cheaper, which means, among other things, rolling back many Green Deal regulations and investing in nuclear energy, which would also power data centers. “That is why we should be discussing this, rather than yet more regulations designed to limit opportunities for international cooperation and opportunities for our companies and scientists,” argued the PiS politician.
