MEP Jacek Ozdoba sent a letter to the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, calling for the immediate removal of German MEP Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann from her position as Chair of the Subcommittee on Security and Defense (SEDE). The initiative was supported by a group of MEPs from various political groups in the European Parliament.
In their letter, the signatories point out that Strack-Zimmermann, a Renew Europe MEP, organized an exhibition that insults the European Union’s main ally, the United States. In particular, the exhibition sparked controversy by depicting President Donald Trump in a degrading and vulgar manner, which—as the authors of the letter emphasize—undermines transatlantic relations.
The letter also stressed that, in the context of the ongoing war and the importance of cooperation with allies for Europe’s security, such actions cannot be treated as satire. According to the signatories, exhibitions that portray national leaders in a vulgar and provocative manner are inappropriate for an institution such as the European Parliament.
The authors of the letter appeal to the President of the Parliament to take the necessary steps to restore the institution’s credibility.
